Sage Supervision

Connect, Reflect, Explore

Holding space for your professional wellbeing.

I am so pleased you have found your way here. I am on a mission to remind nurses and those working in health and community care organisations of their incredible worth and to support our investment in Professional Supervision Services.

Hi, I’m Tegan,

I have worked in the healthcare industry for 25 years and can relate to the complexities we now face in response to society’s changing needs.

Like you, I recognise that we work in an industry that expects a lot from us, and we are often overlooked and left to manage our own responses to complex, traumatic and sensitive situations. I understand your contributions, and I am aware that you bring so much from within yourself to work in the space of caring for others.

Professional Supervision is an antidote to the load we carry and a mechanism that can restore us to thrive in our chosen occupation and allow us to work in ways that feel right for us and our clients.

Sage Supervision is a safe place where you can be heard and discover solutions through deliberate, reflective practice.

Understanding Supervision.

Professional Supervision is an emerging practice in Nursing (although it has been around for decades in Social work, Counselling, Psychology, Mental health and Allied health domains) that recognises the emotional demands of the type of work we do. It offers a safe place to unpack a lot of our challenges. It helps us to navigate the ongoing ethical and relational matters that arise in our engagement with clients, staff and organisations.

Professional Supervision is often poorly understood. It is a misleading title, and because the literal meaning of the term ’professional supervision’ is ‘to oversee one’s professional work’, it can cause confusion. Despite its name, it is NOT about overseeing clinical practice or performance management or a substitute for counselling. It is instead a practice that encourages accountability, learning, and self-reflection, which translates to new skill development both personally and professionally.

While Supervision is a place where we can release our tensions, find blindspots and patterns that emerge, there will always be room to observe your achievements and acknowledge your contributions which invite growth to expand.

My Background

I grew up in Rural Australia and have lived in Mid Canterbury, New Zealand, for 20+ years. I am a wife to Matt, and have the absolute honour of mothering three teenagers.

My career as a Registered Nurse has taken me to places like Alice Springs, Yuendamu, Darwin, Costa Rica, Guyana, London, Wellington, Timaru and now Ashburton.

I have worked and volunteered in the fields of Community Health, Palliative care, District Nursing, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Gynaecology, Rural and Remote nursing, Oncology and Disability services.

I have recently chosen to pivot into the direction of Professional Supervision because I am convinced it is an invaluable pathway to help alleviate professional distress. Nurses and healthcare workers are worthy of this monthly investment to maintain longevity and joy in their careers.

Academic Pathways

I seek knowledge and have a curious appetite for how humans connect with themselves and one another. This has led me to complete post-grad studies in occupational health, bereavement grief and ethics, yoga studies, and recently, a post-grad certificate in professional supervision. You may also find me on the picket line as an active delegate for the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO).

Outside of nursing, I dabble in art and all things botanical and attempt to maintain steady growth of daily habits to balance mind, body, and spirit.

Sage Supervision is my new business, and I wholeheartedly want this to be a space where you can be heard and acknowledged. My friendly and open manner will ensure a confidential and protected space for proactive, planned and purposeful debriefing.

Professional Supervision works best when attended monthly, and commitment is mutual and not forced.

This helps us to work with each other with integrity and allows the facilitation of healthy professional habits. Looking after your professional wellbeing has never been so important.

If any of this resonates with you and you find yourself seeking Professional Supervision support to enhance longevity as a practitioner or want to chat to discover what Supervision is all about, then do get in touch. I’m happy to meet up with you.

I can meet in person locally in Canterbury, or virtually via teams or zoom platform.
